The Cartographic Module allows for travel into unexplored hexes of the Starmap. Unlike a Telescope in the interior of the rocket it can help reveal the starmap without much player intervention, as the path is constantly being revealed as the rocket travels without stopping to discover a path. This is generally only the case for long range rockets, as rocket height and Burden is much more of an issue for short range rockets, where a Telescope inside the rocket would usually be sufficient.
