Compost is used to break Polluted Dirt and other Compostable items down into Dirt. It can get rid of Food or Seeds that has been marked for compost (such as those contaminated by Germs). The Compost needs to be periodically flipped by a Duplicant in order to function.
Usage
Duplicants will flip compost based on Farm errand priority. The speed is affected by the Strength attribute.
The compost pile heats up itself and its contents to 75 °C while active, and has a very low decor value, so it is best placed far away from living areas, preferably in a separated room.
The compost is a good way of getting rid of the Polluted Dirt created by your Outhouse. The Dirt created can then be used for mealwood or as one of the resources needed for the Fertilizer Synthesizer. Composting Balm Lily Flowers can provide free dirt.
However, for Polluted Dirt that is very high in Germs, typically coming from a Water Sieve connected to multiple Lavatorys, the 75 °C heat will not kill all of the germs before its is converted into Dirt, which can spread Food Poisoning to fertilized plants.
Despite the visual effects Compost does not emit any Polluted Oxygen by itself.
