Desalinator is a building that filters Salt Water or Brine to make water and salt.

  • 5 kg/s Salt Water = 4.65 kg/s Water + 350 g/s Salt
    • (outputs at the temperature of input)
  • 5 kg/s Brine = 3.5 kg/s Water + 1.5 kg/s Salt
    • (with minimal output temperature of 40 °C, and can be higher if input is hotter)

The Desalinator operates at 100% efficiency, generating as much salt as physical transition.

The Salt is stored inside the Desalinator. Once it reaches 1000 kg, the Desalinator stops working and has to be emptied by Duplicants.

Heat economy

When processing brine, Desalinators become net heat negative if the brine's temperature is above 30.5 °C.

  • Processing 40 °C brine will erase ~25 % of its heat (or around 205 kDTU in absolute numbers).
  • With 100 °C brine the absolute number rises to ~518 kDTU, but without meaningful rise in efficiency.

When processing salt water, the THC of the output is lower than the input by ~5%, resulting in a small amount of heat deletion.

Tips

  • It can be submerged to avoid overheating.
  • It will pass regular water and polluted water without being damaged.
  • It transfers heat most freely through floor tiles. Avoid building on top of insulated tiles without liquid cooling; using metal tiles with cooling pipe for efficient heat transfer.
