Fullerene is a Rare Resource.

Production[ | ]

In base game, it could only be obtained by cargo bay on a fully explored asteroid, with rare resource unlocked (>%1 mass) or in a large amount via gilded asteroid (about %10~15)

Spaced Out Logo Production[ | ]

  • It can be harvested on rocket missions from renewable Gilded Asteroid Field.
  • After the Temporal Tear Opener has been fired, Fullerene Meteors will fall on that planetoid daily containing 3-20 kg of Fullerene. The meteor showers stops after reloading the game.

Usage[ | ]

Molecular Forge produces Super Coolant from Fullerene, Gold, and Petroleum:

1 kg Fullerene + 49.5 kg Gold + 49.5 kg Petroleum = 100 kg Super Coolant

Trivia[ | ]

A fullerene is a molecule formed entirely out of carbon atoms in a closed or partially closed mesh made, made up of joined rings of 5-7 carbon atoms each. One of the most famous type of fullerene, as well as the most common naturally-occurring type, is a C60 (60 carbon atoms) molecule, formed in the shape of a sphere made out of connected hexagons and pentagons resembling a traditional soccer ball. This type of fullerene, from which the "fullerene" category as a whole gets its name, is called a "buckminsterfullerene", after Buckminster Fuller, an architect and inventor that popularized the usage of the geodesic domes that fullerenes resemble. Due to its resemblance to a soccer ball, C60 it is also called a "buckyball".

Fullerenes have been extensively studied, and are used or are under study for applications in medical imaging, gene therapy, photovoltaic technology, and nanotechnology. Buckminsterfullerene, when super-compressed, forms into a substance called a "nanodiamond" or "hyperdiamond", which is the hardest substance currently known to humankind.
