Ice is a water source found in the Frozen Biome.

Usage[]

A storage of Ice placed in Water pool can help cooling the water.

Ice Block requires Ice to build. It has the highest base decoration value (+20) in the game, together with Marble Block and Metal Block. It will melt in warm environments so better build it in Frozen Biome only.

Ice-E Fan can use Ice to cool the environment. The consumed Ice is melted into bottled Water.

Production[]

Cooling Water below its freezing point will turn it into Ice. A water tile less than or equal to 800 kg will turn into an ice entity; while a water tile greater than 800 kg will turn into an ice tile.

Cooling Salt Water below its freezing point will turn it into Ice (77% mass) and Brine (23% mass).

Ice Maker can make Ice from Water.

Tips[]

  • Mining anything, including ice, will destroy 50% of the original mass. Melting it instead will keep all the mass and double the amount of precious water received but can not be moved as easily.
  • Ice is generally encountered in biomes with starting temperatures well below the freezing point of pure water. By piping in heat so as to locally melt ice, the water runoff will often re-freeze as dupe-portable ice. If the ice is melted with salt water, it is often the case that the temperature exchange will turn the salt water into brine+ice.
  • Constructing a Tempshift Plate out of Ice will not be affected by the 15°C lower limit of building temperatures. On the other hand, you can only use 20% of the Ice heat capacity that way, as only 20% of buildings mass is considered for heat calculations.
