Mess Table is a furniture item to which Duplicants can be assigned to consume their food in a determined position. Mess Tables reduce stress from eating off the floor and are the main component for the Mess Hall Room and Great Hall room.

Creating a dedicated Mess Hall or Great Hall is highly recommended. Making this area much nicer than the rest of your colony is an easy way to reduce stress. Lavishing the area with lamps, art, and high decor items amplifies the de-stressing effect. Including a Ration Box or ideally a Refrigerator with the setup saves time and stores food efficiently.
Making a Mess Hall close to food production areas saves Duplicants the hassle of having to transport food long distances. Duplicants will be automatically assigned to any unassigned table; they will refuse to eat until they reach it, unless unassigned manually. Duplicants will only eat at a table assigned to them, and can only be assigned to one table. This can result in Duplicants starving to death while holding food, or repeatedly dropping food and making a full return trip to get new food from the original source instead of picking up the food item they dropped.
