The Nosh Sprout is a food plant found in the Rust Biome. It produces Nosh Bean which can be cooked into Tofu and Spicy Tofu.

As of the Automation Innovation Pack Update, there is no way to gain Nosh Sprouts if the chosen Asteroid Type has no Rust Biome.

Recipes

Inside the Microbe Musher,

• 6 units Nosh Bean + 50 kg Water = 3,600 kcal Tofu.

Inside the Gas Range,

• 3,600 kcal Tofu + 1 unit Pincha Peppernut = 4,000 kcal Spicy Tofu.
• 4 units Nosh Bean + 4 units Tonic Root = 4,000 kcal Curried Beans.

Growth

Nosh Sprout requires a temperature range of -25 °C to 0 °C. It requires an air pressure of 25 grams to 10 kg. It requires an atmosphere of Carbon Dioxide.

Wild

A wild Nosh Sprout takes 84 cycles to grow and produces 12 beans.

Domestic

Nosh Sprout can be planted in a Planter Box, Farm Tile and Hydroponic Farm. It requires 5 kg/cycle Dirt and irrigation of 20 kg/cycle Ethanol.

A domestic Nosh Sprout takes 21 cycles to grow and still produces 12 beans.

Per Duplicant (domesticated)

Assuming each duplicant eats 1,000 kcal per day.

Per plant, every 21 cycle wil gain 12 beans. In the same time, duplicant will have required 21,000 kcal.

As Tofu:

Netting 2 Tofu, for a total of 7,200 kcal. Thus you'll need ~2.92 Nosh Sprout per dupe, assuming none of the beans are taken to plant new sprouts.

As Spicy Tofu:

Netting 2 Spicy Tofu, for a total of 8,000 kcal. Thus you'll need 2.625 Nosh Sprout per dupe, assuming none of the beans are taken to plant new sprouts.

As Curried Beans:

Netting 3 Curried Beans, for a total of 15,000 kcal. Thus you'll need 1.4 Nosh Sprout per dupe, assuming none of the beans are taken to plant new sprouts.

Per duplicant (wild)

As wild plants grow 4x slower, the number needed is increased by 4. ~12 plants per dupe if you feed them Tofu, 10.5 if you feed Spicy Tofu, 5.6 if you feed Curried Beans.

Water usage

When compared to Sleet Wheat, Nosh Sprouts are actually more water efficient.

Sleet wheat uses 20 kilograms of water during 18 cycles to produce 7200 Calories if making frost buns. 7200/18 = 400 Calories/20 = 20 calories per kilogram of water.

Nosh sprout uses 8.333 kg of polluted water per cycle per plant through an Arbor Tree, to produce 7200 Calories. 7200/21 = 342 calories/8.333 = 41 calories per kilogram of water, when taking into account the water used when making tofu the water total comes to 342 calories/13.1 = 26.11.. calories per kilogram of water.

Tips

• If Tofu is seen as the base line amount of Calories, 3600 / 6, then each Nosh Bean provides 600 kcals.
  • This means that the net caloric gain of Spicy Tofu is +400 kcals.
• Nosh Sprouts with Tofu provide a baseline 343 Calories per day, if the plants drop instead of being harvested it decreases to 288.
  • With Spicy Tofu this increases to 381, and 320 respectively.
• Nosh Beans don't spoil if planted. This allows you to preserve the Nosh Beans indefinitely. Therefore, after the plant has grown, you may disable whatever it is planted on to preserve the food without having to fertilize/irrigate the sprout.
