As opposed to the Base Game version of the Petroleum engine, the Small Petroleum Engine needs a Liquid Pipe Input, and stores 450 kg Petroleum.
The Small Petroleum Engine requires an Oxidizer tank, typically a Small Solid Oxidizer Tank containing either Fertilizer or Oxylite, or a Liquid Oxidizer Tank containing Liquid Oxygen. Liquid oxidizer tanks have an increased burden cost, however, so the efficiency gain of liquid oxygen may not be worth using if you want a faster rocket.
Small Petroleum Engines use 45kg of petroleum fuel per hex travelled, and the range can be extended with additional fuel tanks.
The Carbon Dioxide exhaust gas from a petroleum engine will be in the range of 1400C or more, and may cause some types of metal ores, refined metals and rock to melt.
Trivia[]
- Its current description and flavor text is a word for word copy from the Base Game Version of the Petroleum Engine.
- The Small Petroleum Engine is twice as efficient in petroleum cost when traveling through space compared to the Petroleum Engine.
- Adding a Liquid Fuel Tank to this engine, while taking up a lot of the height up, will allow this engine to travel 30 more hexes, useful for discovering space, but you will require a oxidizer, preferably a Liquid Oxidizer Tank.
- The Small Petroleum Engine and the Petroleum Engine are pretty easy to fuel and refuel, unless your Planetoid does not have a Oil Biome, or at least some Slicksters.
- This engine max possible range is 40 hexes, with 2 Large Liquid Fuel Tanks, a Liquid Oxidizer Tank, and a Solo Spacefarer Nosecone.
