The Sugar Engine is one of the first engines available to the Dupes. It stores 450 kg Sucrose. This engine needs oxidizer to operate.
Since Sucrose can only be acquired by ranching Divergents, and can be used as fertilizer, the similarly early researched Carbon Dioxide Engine is the more common option. The sugar engine, however, has the advantage of double the range of the former engine specifically for round trips due to the ability to refuel the engine immediately after landing by storing solid sucrose fuel in the spacefarer module via storage bin.
